Just as career success is measured by the money you make and the important tasks you accomplish, career security is measured by the pursuit of continuing education. This may sound a bit preachy, but education is really of greater importance today than ever before. To ensure a career security in this time of economic slowdown, getting more education is your best defense.

You may opt to enroll in a masteral program that can give your resume a more definitive value. In doing so, why not explore other forms of learning such as distance education which is popular these days? With the U.S. economy slowing down this year, layoffs have become a trend. I see two reasons for this, it’s either companies are putting their cost-cutting efforts into practice or they want to ensure profitability and competitiveness. Whether you like it or not, layoffs are real and for those workers who may be facing it, now is the time to learn how to cope with the situation.

First, never panic. Losing a job may be stressful and catastrophic, but it doesn’t mean the end of the world. After doing some reflection, it’s time to recover. Do that by updating your resume or going back to school to get higher education. You had work before and it’s a guarantee that you can find one again. Time is your only enemy in this situation and the faster you act to get a new job, the better.
