Barnard makes the list through his book “The Functions of the Executive” (1968) in the 24th position. “The Principles of Scientific Management” (1911) by Frederick Winslow Taylor, “The Human Side of Enterprise” (1960) by Douglas McGregor, and “Strategy and Structure” (1962) by Alfred D. Chandler occupies the 23rd, 22nd and 21st ranks, respectively.

Comprising the top five in the list of the Top 25 Business Books are “The Habits of Highly Effective People” (1989) by Stephen R. Covey – 5th; “The One-Minute Manager” (1981) by Kenneth H. Blanchard and Spencer Johnson – 4th; “How to Win Friends and Influence People” (1937) by Dale Carnegie -3rd; “The Innovator’s Dilemma” (1997) by Clayton M. Christensen – 2nd; and finally “In Search of Excellence: Lessons from America’s Best-Run Companies (1982) by Thomas J. Peters and Robert H. Waterman, Jr. occupying the top position. It describes the basic principles of management used by 43 companies categorized as excellent. The list just shows that the best business books are determined by the relevance of its contents regardless of the period it was made.
