As more and more lists become available, let me start your day with the list of 31 careers with bright future this year as sourced from USNews.com.

Among the 31, my four best bets are the following:
1.	Engineer. Science and technology continues to evolve and engineers are always a part of the development and advancement.
2.	Government Manager. A job in the civil service is always a good option. First, it pays well. Second, job security in this place of work is high. Also, all government jobs offer ample vacation days, quality health insurance and good retirement benefits.
3.	Genetic Counseling. With the completion of the Human Genome project, careers in genetic counselors have surged.
4.	Investment Banker. Any job that deals with finances and investments are always a good choice. The financial industry is continually growing and should the economy perform below what is expected, it helps to be on the safe side.

The number of part-time workers is steadily increasing. Based on the data by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), 22 percent of employees work on a part-time basis and they do not lack the essential benefits full-time workers receive.

One example of this lucrative part-time work is in the health professions. BLS reports show that nursing is expected to grow 23 percent within the 2006-2016 period. To become a nurse, you would need a two-year associate program or a three-year diploma program and pass a state-licensing exam.

The reward of working part-time is that your time becomes flexible and you get to have enough for pursuing higher studies or do volunteer work.

Other part-time jobs that pay include college instructors and financial analysts.

Our career choices are usually affected by trends in the employment world. When you hear that this career has good prospects and that career has a not-so-bright future, you tend to choose the former. To make a wiser decision, you should also take into account those careers that are overrated. Most of the times, the insights supplied for these occupations exceed reality. Seriously, this is not always a good thing as job seekers tend to rely on them when looking for employment.

USNews.com reports about the most overrated careers based on reviews from books, articles, websites, forums, and blogs. People’s experiences in careers and confidential counseling sessions with 2,600 people over a period of two decades were also used to strengthen the claims. I just thought you might find the article interesting.

Mission statements are designed to provide meaning, direction and purpose to every organization. Most companies have mission statements to convey their business, corporate and social goals clearly.

A personal mission statement, on the other hand, is a bit different from company mission statements. First, it can differ from person to person. Second, it is about personal values that we want to follow through in the course of our career.

For job seekers, creating a personal mission statement can help identify core values and beliefs. It establishes priorities and goals. It provides direction, especially for people who are at a career crossroads. A personal statement can also serve as the road to success by strengthening and sticking to it.

Career experts say a person’s temperament can greatly affect his career choice. Upon learning that, it somehow made sense to me why a friend of mine who had a short-temper back then, didn’t took the advice of his family to pursue a teaching career.

If you come to think about it, temperament is also a basis of one’s ability to handle stress. In the workplace, stress is inevitable and it depends on the nature of your job how much stress you are likely to experience.

Extraverts and introverts are on the opposite poles when it comes to temperament. That is why according to a study, extraverts are career generalist and introverts are career specialist.

Most of us are already aware of the state of the economy in general and the employment market in particular. But the question that remains is, where are the job losses? According to TheCareerNews.com, the sectors that have been greatly affected by the recent economic downturns include construction, manufacturing, business services and retail. For instance, the construction industry alone cut 51,000 jobs last month.

Factory workers in companies manufacturing furniture and wood products also saw the lost of around 48,000 jobs last month. On the other hand, the business services sector lost some 35,000 workers while the retail industry has been hit the lightest with job cuts of only 12,400.

Slowdown in sales is said to be the main cause of job losses and this is attributed to the impact of sub-prime mortgage crisis on consumer spending. For the link to the article, click here.
