It was said in the previous entry about the advantage of planning a career that it will be a practical action in facilitating success if an individual will consider being open-minded in evaluating himself or herself as well as accept constructive criticism from others. Here are some basic steps in planning a career or evaluating oneself to improve a career:
1. Know your skills and talents. Try to evaluate yourself about the things that you can or cannot do. It is like you are to undergo a self-test wherein you will sort out your strengths from your weaknesses.
2. Applying the strength in a certain field. This means that you will have to try to work in a low kind of work where you know you can handle it very well. If the result will turn out to be excellent then you can go further. But if it’s not, you should try it again. Besides, no died in trying for the second time.
3. Knowing your own self profoundly. A person will not be able to have a successful career if he himself cannot understand his individuality. All of us are born with unique talents and skills. If a person would figure it out, then he can go to the next level where peak of success is at stake.

1. Keep your resume up to date.
Always keep your resume up to date with the latest developments in your career. If you are currently jobless, try to find freelance work so that there won’t be too big a gap in your employment history.
2. Have samples of your work.
If you are a writer or graphic artist, for example, try to have a portfolio you can send to employers.
3. Don’t be afraid to follow-up.
Many employers appreciate applicants who follow up, which shows that they are genuinely interested in the job.
4. Spread yourself out.
But not too thinly. Try to find the best job application websites and post your resume there. You can also try professional networking sites like LinkedIn to establish a professional network.
5. Be on time.
When called to an interview, it’s best that you’re at least 10-15 minutes early. Early birds give good impressions.
Employment Statistics

Current estimates places the unemployment rate at around 25% which is a very high number that usually hovers only at single digits. Many people lost jobs as the economic recession set in, taking away previously stable jobs overnight. People who have managed to get ample salary insurance are even finding out the hard way that that is no sure way to bridge the cash gap presented by unemployment, normally running out before they find a new job. The statistics are mere numbers for on the normally busy streets of major city centers are less and less traffic. People are retuning to their home towns in hopes of getting menial jobs and to save on rent, just hope the recession ends soon and the government can find a swift solution to a pressing problem of such magnitude as this. Just keep looking and you may find jobs, but don’t expect high paying ones for everybody’s tightening their belts.
